Evidence before spectacle
A historical sample
Curated records across six lenses: AI, conflict/security, nature, space, human progress and public health. AI covers 2012–2026; military history supports 2022–2026. Live UN News headlines are separate and unreviewed. This is not exhaustive, representative, or a live feed. Empty regions do not imply an absence of harm.
Progress and public health
Innovation stages describe the evidence in a record: discovery, trial, deployment or measured impact. A laboratory result is not an available product. Health records separate outbreak notices, prevention, response and elimination milestones; an outbreak-end notice is a dated assessment. Map markers are geographic references, not disease footprints or transmission paths. Health significance is editorial importance, separate from any official assessment.
Significance: an editorial 1–5 scale
Ratings are ordinal editorial priorities, not probabilities or a scientifically validated harm score. Money is only one consideration. Evidence status and attribution uncertainty are shown separately. Every rating has a written rationale; amber means 4 or 5. Ratings reviewed 25 October 2026.
What the money means
Figures retain their source currency: US$, S$, HK$ and £ are not interchangeable. No exchange-rate estimates or cross-case totals are used. A reported loss, gross transfer, secured funds, ransom demand and imposed penalty have distinct labels. Unknown cost is not zero, and harms without a credible financial measure are not assigned a dollar value. Each amount links to its dated source.
Military: live and historic
Live reports fetches the public UN News Peace and Security RSS feed. Publication and fetch times are shown. It is a source-headline view, not independently verified real-time military activity. Headlines remain unrated; shading represents named-country coverage. Refresh occurs on request and every five minutes while this mode is active. A failed feed is labelled unavailable or stale, never replaced silently with historical records. Historic mode selects a year from the researched 2022–2026 sample using the year control and arrows. A year without a catalog record is not evidence of no conflict.
About this lens
Labels and region selection
While Orbit is running, mapped location labels appear on the front-facing hemisphere and disappear as they rotate away. Schematic orbital nodes reveal their titles on selection. In the conflict lens, highlighted countries have clickable name labels and matching-record counts. Click the country itself or its name to open its records; Clear region removes that filter. Country label positions come from Natural Earth and are not incident coordinates.
Through-year previews
Moving Through earlier than From temporarily previews that earlier year. Returning forward restores the From date you chose, so returning to the same year with unchanged filters restores the same counts.
Orbital signals
Hollow orbital markers represent global, off-Earth or unlocated records. Their positions are a schematic index around the Earth, never inferred coordinates. Select one to open the same evidence dossier as a geographic marker.
Frequency
The chart counts unique catalog records by occurrence start, falling back to the cited report date when unknown. It does not measure worldwide event frequency. Earlier-starting periods overlapping the window are listed separately. A zero means no record in this sample, not no event in the world.
Place and time
Markers indicate approximate cities, states or jurisdictions. Company headquarters are not substituted for harm locations. Global and unlocated cases stay in the registry. Occurrence dates and periods differ from the publication date of the cited account, which may not be the first public report. Unknown occurrence dates use that cited report date and are labelled.
Motion controls
Drag to rotate. Use pinch, Ctrl + scroll or zoom buttons to zoom; ordinary scrolling opens the frequency section. Arrow keys rotate and +/− zoom. Orbit and incident playback can be paused and suspend while hidden or scrolled out of view. Escape stops motion and closes panels. Reduced-motion preferences disable camera animation and orbit.
